If you don't want to bathe in your own sweat at these record temperatures, you can cool off at the lake and enjoy the sun from there. The raised index finger demands: apply sunscreen! The skin reacts with pimples. What to do?
The dangers of the sun to the skin: burns and wrinkles
Getting tanned or having healthy skin This is the real question we should be asking when we talk about sun protection. We speak of a "healthy complexion" in everyday life and think of well-tanned people that they lead a happy, healthy life. Happy maybe, but healthy Not necessarily::
The ultraviolet radiation UV rays from the sun, above all UV-A and UV-B, affect our skin. The UV-B ensures that our skin produces the skin pigment melanin; UV-A for this dye to convert and turn brown. You can see that on our skinn like the sunburnthat we get when we lie unprotected in the sun.
What you don't see on our skin, at least not directly: UV rays affect our genetic makeup and are clearly carcinogenic. And what's more: UV radiation makes our skin age faster! The skin thickens through UV-B light calluses, it dries out and forms wrinkles. The long-term damage caused by UV radiation cannot be avoided by "pre-tanning" in the solarium: UV light is also considered carcinogenic there.nd.
The verydetailed article from the German Cancer Information Center explains the consequences of UV radiation on the skin and the genome.
Well, on the one hand we speak of a healthy complexion, on the other hand we also know the saying "The skin never forgets". We know the answer, it's called: sun protection. But sunscreens have a little catch: they cause uncomfortable pimples in some.
Sunscreen protects but not against pimples and rashes?
Our skin tends to be very greasy in some places. Especially in summer, when we sweat a lot, this in combination with oily creams leads to blemishes:
Our pores produce a mixture of sebum enriched with bacteria, dead skin cells and other substances that we are exposed to in everyday life. As far as known. The problem now is: if we apply cream, we clog these pores additionally. This puts more strain on our skin because the likelihood of inflammation increases.
You may have already noticed the result when you stand in front of the mirror after a day at the lake: There are more pimples on the face, neck, chest or back. It is not for nothing that the more fatty and sweaty parts of the body. This is exactly where the pores are particularly active.
Chemical substances in sunscreens are also problematic. The fear with some of them is that they are hormonally active. Octocrylene is one of these substances. A note like "dermatologically tested" is no guarantee that you are on the safe side. Because this note only requires that a dermatologist was present with the formulation. Not more. Occasionally it can also happen that people are allergic to sunscreen. However, you should have a real intolerance tested by a dermatologist.
The optimal way for healthy skin in the sun
On the one hand, there are sunscreens that are less greasy. A lotion or gel would be an approach for you to test whether you can cope better with it: These solutions are water-based and therefore absorb into the skin more quickly instead of clogging the pores. On the other hand, you should refrain from sun oil.
If you are one of the more sensitive types, at least when it comes to skin matters, the Federal Office for Radiation Protection, the BfS, recommends using sunscreen with physical filters and mineral sunscreen. These use small particles of white zinc oxide and / or titanium oxide that reflect the sunlight away.en.
The advantage: Such creams work immediately because the white film lies directly on the skin and does not have to be absorbed first. Small disadvantages: The creams with physical filters cannot be spread as well as conventional sun creams, and mineral sun protection leaves a visible white film on the skin. After all, such creams do not cause allergies as the chemical variants tend to do. And the particles don't clog your pores, so you suffer less from pimples.
With mineral sun creams, you should make sure that they work without nanoparticles as much as possible, because their effects on your health and the environment have not been adequately clarified. It is also worthwhile to use products from certified natural cosmetics manufacturers because they basically workwithout microplastics.
The best protection against pimples, wrinkles and skin aging?
Ideally, stay out of the sun if you want to avoid the harmful long-term effects of UV radiation. This is especially true for the midday hours from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., but also for the time around it. Specifically, this means: cool shade is the best protection against wrinkles caused by the sun.
But because you can't always sit in the dark, you should protect yourself well with clothing and dense textiles over your whole body and hat and also apply cream. Be sure to test mineral sunscreens to reduce allergic risks or pimples.n.
